Dec. 22, 2006

From bmkeis@osmre.gov

In response to requests from you and others, the Office of Surface Mining and Reclamation and Enforcement is extending the comment period for the Black Mesa Project draft environmental impact statement. The comment period will run for a total of 75 days, which is 30 days longer than the 45-day comment period required by the Council on Environmental Quality's regulations implementing the National Environmental Policy Act. The extended comment period ends on February 6, 2007. The Federal Register, newspaper, and radio notices announcing the extended comment period will be published at the earliest opportunity.

OSM also has scheduled an additional public meeting for January 11, 2007, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Leupp Chapter House. OSM will also hold the originally-scheduled January 9, 2007, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. meeting at the Chapter House. Federal Register, newspaper, and radio notices announcing the additional meeting will be published at the earliest opportunity.
